When working on this piece it was indeed a challenge because i have never drawn a person of color and the palate was odd to work with since im new to both realism and pastel. It was fun, the shading was one of the hardest ive done yet because of the difference in color and shapes. Hair is always the enemy in my portraits..
Sketch 1 Process Picture
I observe. The different kind of strokes I used while painting this painting. I began to get lazy during the end of the process and didn't pay much attention to the details in the bushes or the shading very well.
What was something that you had initially missed but discovered while looking more closely?
I had missed the detail in the black stone figure in the front of the painting, leaving it just all black, soon when i was almost done I figured that it needed more detail so I went in and added more shading and detail.
